How do you Value Design?  RSS Feed

How do you Value Design?

This Creative film really captures the truth about what we as commercial designers believe.  How do you define the value of design?  Why do Businesses retain Commercial Interior Design as a key experience based ‘Design Strategy’?

Please watch the short film below, ask yourself what does it means to your business? The answer is  subjective and will be the title of my next Blog Post .

A recent via interiors poll confirmed our suspicions:

Designers are Employed to:

Create a Culture and Brand Recognition within an environment
Ensure Regulations and Code of Practice is fulfilled
To Save Time and Save Cost
Promote Confidence in the decision making Process
Spend wisely and effectively by communicating with a knowledgeable individual
Create Consistency and Brand Recognition

We value your comments and would like to understand your thoughts as to why you believe in retaining a professional qualified Designer?

You can go to Vancouver from 26-30 April 2010 and be part of the discussion. And lots of other cool design stuff Register today! www.designweekvancouver.ca

Thanks to Design Week for sharing this thought provoking video.  Whose theme of Design Currency 2010 is ‘Defining the Value of Design’. To promote the event and play off the ideas of currency and value, we designed and printed over 2200 custom bills and fed them through a money counter to create this animation.

Green friendly property portfolios desirable  RSS Feed

Sustainability is a key consideration for businesses investing in property despite the downturn, according to a report by the Leeds office of GVA Grimley. The survey revealed that awareness and attitudes toward sustainable commercial property had improved since GVA Grimley’s last survey 18 months ago. Richard Walsh, head of investment at the property consultancy’s Leeds office, said: “Bearing in mind the challenges investors have faced over the period since our last survey, it is highly encouraging to see the vast majority of investors not only still consider sustainability to be an important issue, but continuing to drive it as an integral part of generating investment value in the future.” c/o Business Insider

Triathlon news  RSS Feed

Steve Smart, Via’s Project Manager and Cost Consultant, has been competing in local Trialthlons for many years. His passion for the sport has seen him push himself to beat his personal best at every level of competition he has entered.

This year it was time to aim even higher and Steve entered the London Trialthon which was staged at Excel in Docklands on 1st & 2nd August. Here is Steve’s first-hand account of his experience:

“As we arrived at Excel, the sheer scale of the event suddenly dawned on me. This was no local tri with a mere few hundred competitors, but a renowned ‘institution’ on the tri calendar, with thousands of people coming in from all over the world!

We made our way to the rally point to collect our caps and numbers and then jumped en mass into the Royal Albert Dock and made our way to the start line. The gun went and all five hundred competitors in my group began to swim. At that moment I knew exactly what it would be like to be spinning in a washing machine drum! After a few hundred meters the adrenaline began to wear off and space opened up so I could start to swim effectively.
Out of the water, through transition, and onto the bike. It was exhilarating not have to dodge the traffic and jump the lights on the capitals’ closed roads. Stage two down and back to transition to change for the final leg – the run. Only 10km to go to the finish line and the completion of my first Olympic distance triathlon. Total exhilaration……….and exhaustion!”
