TRIATHLON NEWS AND INTERIOR DESIGN
Steve Smart, Via Interiors’ Project Manager and Cost Consultant, has competed in local Triathlons for many years, a real challenge, a passion, but not necessarily in the BBC News! Similar to us and interior design, it’s infectious! His love for the sport has seen him push himself to beat his personal best at every level of competition he has entered. His passion is contagious, a bit like us and interior design!
LONDON TRIATHLON HOME TO THE DESIGN MUSEUM
This year it was time to aim even higher, and Steve entered the London Triathlon, which was staged at Excel in Docklands on 1st & 2nd August. Here is Steve’s first-hand account of his experience:
“As we arrived at Excel, the sheer scale of the event suddenly dawned on me. Suddenly identifying this was no local tri with a mere few hundred competitors but a renowned ‘institution’ on the tri calendar, with thousands of people coming in from all over the world!
We made our way to the rally point to collect our caps and numbers and then jumped en masse into the Royal Albert Dock and made our way to the start line.
Meanwhile, as the Triathlon started, we interior designers headed to the design museum for inspiration. I’d not been since I was a student, many years before! We saw the history of the telephone, the design transition from typewriters to computers. Along with lots of other cool design stuff! We can always strive to design new things!
As always, it didn’t disappoint, and we left feeling invigorated, eager to get back to the design studio! Just like Steve after his triathlon, we all fed off our inspiring design trip to London!
THE RACE
Stage one, the gun went, and all five hundred competitors in our group began to swim. At that moment, I knew just what it would be like to be spinning in a washing machine drum! After a few hundred meters, the adrenaline began to wear off, and space opened up, so I start to swim effectively.
Stage two, out of the water, through transition, and onto the bike, his favourite section. It was exhilarating not to have to dodge the traffic. And jump the lights on the capitals’ closed roads was a fantastic feeling!
Down and back to transition to change for the final leg – ‘the run.’ Stage three, Only 10km to the finish line and the completion of my first Olympic distance triathlon. Total exhilaration……….and exhaustion!”
