MODERN FAMILY HOME Interior Design

Are you thinking of buying an Art Deco 1930’s home and face-lifting? Modern Art Deco style can create a dynamic interior with a hint of luxury. Here are some great examples of living spaces and bedrooms modernised in tune with 21st-century living. Our brief was to renovate a modern family home interior design. We were updating all aspects of a 1930’s art deco home to provide everyday 21st-century family living, a whole-house renovation. The design team love the challenge of transforming period properties like this one. Our design focused on refined elegance. We loved mixing the textures on this project with neutral french greys and taupes.

“We knew we wanted to create a light, open-plan family space,” says Stephen. “I’m so pleased with what we’ve achieved—the look, light and garden views. The way we live in this home has improved our well-being and the way we live. The contemporary log burner Jane recommended creates a focal point. And I love how the new finishes meet the existing brickwork. It provides character, and we’d never get that in a new house. All the little features and details make such a difference!”

Home Interior Design and Space Planning

Carefully maximising any art deco features, which remained whilst carefully ensuring the layout works for the functionality of the space. In the Lounge, the refurbished open fire creates a focal point. It features matrix gold, leathered granite infill and hearth, and a stone surround.

Over the fireplace, a large round mirror compliments the art deco arch.  To complete the ‘look and feel’ the Lounge features a dark blue wall accessorised with mustard and brassware. Biophilia softens the ambience and survives well in a north-facing room

The Snug features a new log burning stove. A great addition, creating a cosy focal point and contemporary open surround featuring an existing brick and a new leathered granite plinth.

Subtle ambient lighting is key to creating mood and space and incorporating fittings such as Artemide grand Tolomeo and Castore in various sizes. Dimmable lighting placed around the interior takes the day into the evening. Particularly with the help of technology like Philips Hue, Amazon Alexa and smart plugs. Minimalist recessed dimmable ceiling LED lighting in a contemporary design allows flexibility and instantly elevates the style without cluttering the space.

The matt white kitchen with a glazed roof lantern and a splashback of feature grey crackle tiles laid out in a herringbone style format. The island lit by an aluminium and walnut pendants unit featuring a Silestone worktop.

Bedroom Interior Design

The cool grey décor of the master bedroom with a luxurious deep pile carpet compliments the space. The modern refurbished hand-painted stag furniture and built-in wardrobes are right on-trend, with additional storage in the form of an ottoman bed. The room enhanced by the feature of geometric copper bedside pendants. With low profile recessed dimmable LED lighting for overall adjustable lighting.

The spacious loft has a subtle styling and grey feature wall, an oversized pendant lighting set within the pitched roof. Natural light floods through the large Velux windows and ensuite bathroom to create a light and airy interior.
