BOLTON HOSPICE Interior design
Our specialist service, selected by Bolton Hospice to prepare the interior design. Including a dementia-friendly refurbishment of their existing outpatient unit. Then, we collaborated, quickly developing ideas and prepared a design brief. Which covered the reception area with a café, lounge seating, and retail display units. In addition, the hospice contains 17 Ensuite bedrooms. And a communal day-care lounge, reception with shop, garden room with a library area, activity room, consultation rooms.
Bolton hospice is an independent hospice that provides specialist care and support for individuals with life-limiting tr terminal illnesses. Delivering expert care help improve patient’s quality of life and wellbeing. Whilst providing dedicated, compassionate and dignified care end of life care.
The growing demand for specialist palliate care, led them to respond by redeveloping their therapy service and create a new specialist ‘Wellbeing Hub’. They required our healthcare interior design expertise. We designed bespoke custom made retail units in the reception and lounge. In addition, a new relaxing café area was also required, so patients could spend time with their families in a comfortable environment.
Bolton Hospice required an additional ‘drop-in service’ to help support their traditional day therapy model. The need for hospice care continues to grow in Bolton, they needed to ensure they had the capacity to meet demand, whilst also supporting patients and their families who required a wider range of services. As a result, they needed to create a new area at the hospice. To deliver more varied and flexible care, such as wellbeing sessions focussing on mindfulness and yoga.
HEALTHCARE INTERIOR DESIGN FOR DEMENTIA
The formal day-care lounge is comfortable with lots of natural light overlooking the beautiful, accessible, serene garden. A tremendous separate dining area with a dementia-friendly kitchen. An inviting garden room with bookcases and soft seating for quiet reading and views of the garden. An inspiring activities room with height-adjustable tables, sit-stand tables and comfortable stacking chairs. The well-appointed consultation rooms refurbished with considered dementia-friendly tonal design in mind: examination couches and chairs upholstered in innovative, complementary colours, specified with suitable healthcare fabrics.
Working with Bolton Hospice, we were tasked with preparing an interior design scheme that would provide a calm and contemporary feel, whilst also catering for the specialist needs. We were able to create the perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality to meet the varied needs of Bolton Hospice. From supplying office desks and chairs for their different clinics to height adjustable dining tables in their activity space to café and lounge furniture. We took care of every design aspect to deliver an inclusive space to cater for everyone in the community. Including individual upholstered seating, such as high back chairs, riser recliner chairs

The interior design concept developed using local landscapes, integrating the texture and complementary colours of the terrain into each area. We used mood boards to communicate the initial design concept. We progressed to sample boards to share the interior finishes and furniture selection. They are decorated in a variety of colours to create a clean, inviting environment. Whilst creating points of interest with suitable healthcare upholstered furniture. Varying textures provide a warm and homely feel to this scheme.
